“The Magic of Disney Animation” Is Coming to Hollywood Studios in 2026!

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to step inside a real animation studio – not just as a visitor, but as a part of the magic? That’s exactly what Disney is bringing to life at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in 2026, and I’ve got all the details for you!

Walt Disney Animation Studios in Burbank, California, is the birthplace of so many of our favorite animated films. And soon, a brand-new experience inspired by that legendary place (and the heartwarming Emmy-winning short film Once Upon a Studio) will invite families into the whimsical world of The Magic of Disney Animation.

Where is "The Magic of Disney Animation" Going to be?

This all-new, interactive attraction will take over the current Star Wars: Launch Bay building — but don’t worry, it’s getting a total pixie dust makeover! Topped with Mickey’s famous Sorcerer Hat (yes, that hat), the building will sparkle with nostalgia and creativity.

The story begins when animators have just stepped away... but the studio is far from quiet. Characters have come to life, and they’re ready to play!

Features, Events, and Things to Do

  • Explore Art Galore!

Inside “The Magic of Disney Animation,” guests will explore an animated version of the studio itself — with departments overrun by beloved Disney characters. Expect lots of giggles, surprises, and yes, even a chance to learn how to draw your own Disney character sketch!

Watch portraits come alive just like in Once Upon a Studio, catch a charming short film with a twist, and discover interactive fun around every turn. It’s part attraction, part playground, and 100% Disney magic.

  • 🐛 For the Littlest Animators

Younger guests (and those of us who are still young at heart!) will absolutely love Drawn to Wonderland, a whimsical indoor play area inspired by Alice in Wonderland concept art by Disney Legend Mary Blair. Picture this: oversized musical flowers, a Mad Tea Party playset, and a curiously delightful Tulgey Wood to explore!

It’s a perfect place to let little ones imagine, create, and burn off some of that theme park energy.

  • 🧞 Character Greetings

You know Disney isn’t going to let this magical space open without a healthy sprinkle of character encounters! While no specific pals have been confirmed just yet, this reimagined space promises tons of new ways to meet your favorite animated friends — and maybe even a few surprises.

The Walt Disney Studios Courtyard Comes to Life

But wait, there’s more! The magic will spill out into the entire courtyard area, which will be reimagined as The Walt Disney Studios — a tribute to the legendary studio lot in Burbank.

You’ll find:

  • 🌊 The Studio Theater (still home to The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure)

  • 📺 A refreshed Disney Jr. show inside the soundstage

  • 🌳 Lush areas to relax, play, and snack while you explore

Keep your eyes peeled — characters might just pop up in the trees, on the lawn, or right beside you!

⏳ Timeline & Closures to Know

To prepare for this exciting transformation, here are some important closure dates to make note of:

  • Animation Courtyard and Disney Jr. Play and Dance! will close starting September 25, 2025

  • The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure and Walt Disney Presents will remain open during the updates.

📺 Catch the Inspiration Now on Disney+

Before this experience opens in 2026, I highly recommend watching Once Upon a Studio on Disney+. It’s a love letter to the characters we’ve grown up with and the animators who brought them to life — and it captures the heart behind this magical new addition to Hollywood Studios.

My Thoughts as a Disney Travel Planner & an Artist

As someone who adores both Disney animation and Imagineering, this new experience feels like the perfect blend of nostalgia, creativity, and family fun. It’s also a fantastic option for families with little ones, thanks to the indoor play area and interactive features. I’m already dreaming up itineraries that include this spot in 2026!
